What is Education Counselling?

Educational counseling is skilled and principled use of relationship to enhance knowledge, to deal with emotions, to Personal & Social development of the student or pupil, It also enhance the ability to optimum utilisation of resources. Educational Counselling gives guidance and support to clarify the students or parents confusions regarding academic excellence. Educational Counselling helps students and parents to know the value of education. It also suggest students and parents about career choice. It also dealt with problematic and undisciplined students, counsel them with psychologic principles.

What do a Educational Counsellor do?

An Educational counsellor is a counsellor who works with school students in school environment. Big Schools hires them to assist special need children to assist them with their studies, and for career guidance to help students in selecting subjects or stream and selecting best career options available to them. An educational Counsellor also assist students in solving their personal problems and issues. The most important duty of the educational counsellor is to understand the aspiration, hopes and dreams of the students. They do SWOT analysis of Students. They helps in maintaining discipline in School as they do counseling of problematic students. An Educational Counsellor helps students to achieve Academic Goals as well as helps in Personal, Social and Professional Development. They helps new students in adjustment to their new school environment. They also guide the student about their Career, as they helps in selecting subjects in 10th and guide students what to do after 12th, as they are counsellor, they deal with psychology, they are much aware about the interest of Students. Educational Counselor also helps in adjustment of Problematic Students, they work closely with parents or guardians of problematic students and works with them individually as well as in group.
What is the Scope for Educational Counsellor?
The scope of Educational counselling is rapidly increasing, as quality educational institutions are increasing in India. In USA it is necessary for all schools to have Educational Counsellor. In india, Most members of Public School Society in India also have posts of Educational Counsellor. All the reputed and big schools in India is hiring the Educational Counsellor. Educational Counsellor gets high perks than a lecturers. The school in India are rapidly increasing hence the demand for Educational Counsellor is also increasing.

What courses are offered and their qualifications?

The basic qualifications to become an educational counsellor is to have good communication skill and fluent English. Anyone who wish to become counsellor should opt any stream after 10, it is considerable if he/she opts Psychology as their subject (Not Necessary). To become an Educational Counsellor, ones may complete graduation with Psychology and Complete their master in Psychology. If someone wish to become counsellor after completing graduation in any stream without psychology, he/she can also become educational counsellor by completing masters in psychology. We suggest only those who enjoys to help others should opt Counselling as their Career Options. These are available courses for those who wish to become educational counsellor or vocational school counsellor. The courses in India is available with regular and open university. So a person can do their regular study with any stream as per their interest as well as can avail the benefits of open universities.
